Most roof leaks we diagnose are actually gutter problems. We treat gutters as part of the roof system.
Our gutter crews cover Santa Monica, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Topanga, Mandeville Canyon, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Westwood, Culver City, Mar Vista, Venice, Marina del Rey, Hancock Park, Larchmont, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Pasadena, and the South Bay. For hillside and canyon homes, we carry extension ladders and fall-arrest gear rated for any pitch.
Tree-heavy neighborhoods — Hancock Park, Larchmont, Windsor Square, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Los Feliz. Ficus, jacaranda, and sycamore drop enough material to clog a standard K-style gutter in weeks. We recommend micromesh leaf-guard systems here; they pay back their cost within three to four seasons compared to twice-yearly manual cleaning.
Palm-dense neighborhoods — West LA, Venice, Marina del Rey, parts of the Valley. Palm fronds are the single worst gutter-clogger in LA — long, waxy, and stringy. They wrap downspout mouths and block scuppers. Twice-yearly cleaning, reinforced downspout guards, and strap-secured gutter hangers are the fix.
Coastal homes — Santa Monica, Venice, Malibu. Galvanized and painted-aluminum gutters corrode within 8–10 years in the salt spray zone. Upgrade to copper or 316 stainless for a 50+ year service life. Copper develops the patina most buyers prefer anyway.
Hillside / canyon homes — Mandeville, Topanga, Bel Air, Benedict Canyon. Runoff volume and velocity on steep-grade lots overwhelms standard 3"x4" downspouts during atmospheric-river events. We upsize to 4"x5" or add a second downspout per gable run.
Flat-roof buildings — Much of East LA, parts of Culver City, and most commercial. No conventional gutter — internal scuppers and drains with overflow scuppers by code. Annual inspection and flow testing are mandatory to keep insurance coverage.
Minimum twice a year — once after Santa Ana winds (October–November) and once after the rainy season (March). Homes under heavy tree cover or palms need quarterly cleaning. Leaf-guard systems reduce but do not eliminate this.
Seamless aluminum is the workhorse (20–30 year lifespan, reasonable cost). Copper is the premium choice for coastal homes, historic properties, and anything with architectural intent (80+ year lifespan, patina develops over time). Steel is available but corrodes faster than aluminum in our climate.
In LA specifically, yes — for homes with tree or palm cover. Micromesh systems (not plastic screens) keep 95%+ of debris out while letting water through. Payback period is 3–4 years versus manual cleaning for most heavy-debris properties.
Yes — aluminum is rolled on site in 30+ stock colors and we can custom-match. Color match matters if you're replacing one run; wholesale replacement lets you choose anything.
Always. Gutters should be removed before roof work and reinstalled after, and we time it as one continuous crew — see roof repair and installation.
